I can’t tell you how many times we’ve gone to San Diego since living in LA. About a 2 hour drive from LA (on a VERY good day), San Diego is a pretty easy road trip. Kevin had a conference here, but was able to take a break for a few hours so we headed over to the new Liberty Station, a sprawling complex full of Instagram-worthy photo moments.

The aisles are lined with some of my favorite things: coffee bars, microbreweries, a cheese shop (you know why Kevin came!) and one of those fancy movie theaters with reclining seats and a wait staff. The shop owners hope it will become the next Pike Place market in Seattle or Ferry Building market in San Francisco (my favorite place!). If you’re planning on visiting, you’ll need a car or Uber it here. But it’s well worth the trip!

We ended up going not just once – but two times this weekend! Well, to be honest, someone left his credit card at the movie theater so an additional trip was kind of added on regardless (I won’t say whether it was me or Kevin who left their card, but I’ll let you figure that one out!).
Besides all the snacks at the food hall, you’ll want to check out The Lot Movie Theater. After passing the food hall and several restaurants — keep on driving! At the back of the grounds you’ll eventually find this high-end theater with big comfy chairs that are like leather lazy-boys.
There is another theater, part of The Lot group, located North in ritzy La Jolla. We’ve been there a few times. While we enjoy the theater – don’t get us wrong – the place could use a little improvement on the service. You are assigned a waiter but on the 3-4 occasions we’ve gone they tend to forget items or bring the wrong things. If you’ve been to the iPic Theater (another high-end chain), there is no comparison. iPic beats it hands down on quality. Though, to be fair, The Lot is a lot cheaper than iPic. Tickets start at $15 plus additional fees for The Lot (compared to iPic which start at $32 per person). Even better, if you’re in San Diego on a Wednesday, tickets at The Lot drop to $10.
It’s well worth the trip to Liberty Station. We’d even just go back for dinner since there are so many restaurants besides the options at the market.
